SSL Install - IIS 7

Creating and completing a certificate request has changed a bit in the newer IIS 7.  First you will need to create a CSR. The steps below may vary between Certificate Authorities.

Create CSR

  • Start -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Services Manager
  • Click server name -> select Server Certificates from center menu
  • Actions -> Create Server Request
  • Fill in Distinguished Name Properties -> Next
  • For Cryptograhic service provider select Microsoft RSA SChannel Cryptographic Provider and select 2048 bit length - > Next
  • Give your CSR a name ie. cert.txt -> Finish

You now provide the cert.txt file to a CA and in return they will provide an SSL Certificate.

Install SSL Certificate

  • Start -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Services Manager
  • Click Server Name -> Select Server Certificates from center menu
  • Actions -> Complete Certificate Request
  • Provide Cetificate file location ad friendly name
  • In the left menu of IISM select your website
  • Select bindings from the Actions Menu on right
  • Add port 443 then choose https, your site's IP, and the SSL certificate
  • Restart your website for the changes to take effect
